What are teachers asking about Formative?

What is the ACAP?

The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) is the statewide testing program administered by the Alabama State Department of Education.

ACAP measures how well students have learned the academic standards outlined in the Alabama Courses of Study, which define what students are expected to know and be able to do at each grade level. The assessments help schools and districts understand whether students are on track for success in the next grade and in future academic coursework.

What grades and subjects are assessed on ACAP?

Grades 2-8:

  • English Language Arts (ELA)
  • Mathematics

Grades 4, 6, and 8:

  • Science

These assessments evaluate student mastery of Alabama’s state academic standards.

How is the ACAP administered?

The ACAP is administered each spring in Alabama public schools.

Most assessments are delivered online, though paper-based testing may be available for students who require approved accommodations, as determined by the Alabama State Department of Education.
