What are teachers asking about Formative?

What is the Georgia Milestone Assessment System?

The Georgia Milestones Assessment System is Georgia’s statewide assessment program for students in grades 3–12, administered by the Georgia Department of Education.

CAASPP measures how well students are mastering the knowledge and skills outlined in California’s academic standards and provides information to educators, districts, and families about whether students are on track for college and career readiness.

According to the California Department of Education, the CAASPP system includes several statewide assessments:

  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics
  • California Science Test (CAST)
  • California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities

These assessments measure student progress toward California’s academic standards.

What grades and subjects are assessed by the Georgia Milestones?

Grades 3–8 (End-of-Grade):

  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science (grades 5 and 8)
  • Social Studies (grades 5 and 8)

High School (End-of-Course):

  • Algebra I
  • American Literature
  • Biology
  • U.S. History

These tests measure student mastery of grade-level and course standards.

How is the Georgia Milestones Assessment System administered?

Milestones assessments are primarily administered online using a computer-based testing system.

Schools administer the tests during a statewide testing window each spring, following guidelines from the Georgia Department of Education. Testing typically takes place during the following windows:

  • End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments: Administered in the spring at the end of the school year for students in grades 3–8.
  • End-of-Course (EOC) assessments: Administered at the conclusion of the corresponding high school course, which may occur during the fall, winter, or spring testing windows, depending on when students complete the course.
