The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is the state’s standardized testing program administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
STAAR measures how well students in Texas public schools have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the state’s curriculum standards. The assessments are designed to determine whether students are prepared for the next grade level or course and, at the high school level, whether they are ready for college and careers.
Grades 3–8:

STAAR is administered annually in the spring, with additional testing opportunities in the summer and fall for retesting.
The Texas Education Agency has transitioned most STAAR assessments to online administration, with limited paper options available for approved accommodations.
